Janie Sheerin, M.Ac.O.M., L.Ac.

From age 14 on, I began studying human anatomy, health and nutrition and I never stopped. I wanted to become a doctor because I was interested in helping people be the best they could be—physically, mentally, and spiritually.  I looked at the role of “doctor” as someone who helps people identify and eliminate obstacles on their path to achieving optimal health and development.  When I looked at the natural world, I saw that nature, by and large, provided what was necessary and that left to its own devices, the animal kingdom thrived.  Have you ever wondered why a herd of zebras or a pod of whales all have basically the same shapes?  Why then do people come in so many shapes—shapes that are often not reflective of good health? And why, today more than ever, do we suffer from so many ailments—from degenerative and auto-immune disorders—to overall poor health?

Wild animals live by instinct. More importantly, they are not bombarded with profit-driven messages about what they should consume.  Only about 15% of what’s sold in a typical American grocery store is considered “food” to the body.  Most of what lines the grocery store shelves is “non-food,” i.e., overly processed “food-stuff” with many additives, chemicals, preservatives and hormones.  People are eating too many non-foods and drinking too many non-nourishing drinks, which is a major contributor to disease today.  We are overfed and undernourished.  Add to that the countless environmental toxins that we encounter every day and it’s easy to see why so many people today feel unwell—and tired. It can be said that disease is “indigestion”. The human body, like any organism, can overcome only so much adversity—lack of exercise, poor diet, a toxic spiritual and physical environment—before it begins to break down.

My job is to help you identify and address the factors in your life that cause illness and dis-ease.  Optimal health is a choice and it requires real work, but it can be fun work and endlessly rewarding.

If you want to improve your health, and are willing to examine the role your overall lifestyle plays in your health and vitality, I welcome the opportunity to assist you in your journey.  Common sense dictates that if our bodies are breaking down prematurely, it’s time to examine what we are doing—or not doing—that contributes to our health and well-being.
